Sykes Cup Round 2 Draw

4th May 2017

‚ÄčAll rounder Cricket Sykes Cup holders Delph & Dobcross have been granted a home draw against Thongsbridge in the second round as one of several intriguing fixtures. Richard Wagstaff's Thongsbridge team have started the season in superb form and know they'll have to perform to an even higher level if they want to continue further in the premier knockout cup.

Lepton Highlanders - the lowest ranked team left in the competition - have been rewarded with a trip to 2010 winners Skelmanthorpe and will be looking to cause an upset. They may find it tough against a side that showed just how potent their batting power can be after the way they ruthlessly took care of Cumberworth United in the first round.

Several players will meet their former club as Kirkburton welcome rivals Shepley. Kirkburton's Tom Burkinshaw may have a point to prove to his former teammates whilst Oliver Davidson (Shepley) will relish the opportunity to perform on his old stomping ground.

There is a local Colne valley derby which will more or less be the go-to match for atmosphere where Broad Oak head to Swallow Lane for a hard-to-call tussle with Golcar. Elsewhere Scholes will entertain Shelley from the Jedi Championship at Chapelgate where West Indian test batsman Devon Smith may be in action - providing he gets enough league matches under his belt to qualify for selection.

Lascelles Hall, another team left from the Jedi Championship couldn't have been thrown much more difficult draws than a journey to Haigh Lane. They've been handed the tough task of attempting to silence Hoylandswaine's prolific opening pair of Gharib Nawaz and Chris Holliday, and that's just for starters. 'Swaine, will be keen to target the Sykes Cup this season from their much changed side.

The final tie of the round sees the Championship's Clayton West head to top flight Armitage Bridge looking to cause an upset.

The holders of the Fired Up Corp. Paddock Shield for the past two years; Barkisland have a replay of last season's final where they will host Scholes. In the pick of the ties elsewhere Hoylandswaine will travel away to Cumberworth and new clubs Nortonthorpe 1XI (if they get past Moorlands) and Edgerton & Dalton 1XI face trips to Holmfirth and Thurstonland respectively.
